Embodied Healing: Yoga is Medicine
To describe what yoga actually is, is kind of an anomaly. It is so incredibly multi faceted. I like to think of it as an iceberg, the tip being the poses- putting your body into weird shapes. But the real yoga is enormous, and hidden below the surface.
Yoga is a practice, and that is the only way it can truly be known. It has to be experienced- continuously with great respect and discipline. You have to be willing to truly look at yourself in all forms. Yoga is a teacher. A mirror. A path. It is full of heart and if you give it your discipline it will give you an empowered life full of confidence, clarity and vibrant health.
It is a self reliant healing insurance policy. On a physical level it gives us strength and flexibility, true ease in our bodies. When we move our body and breath- we clear stagnancy where disease and imbalance could otherwise set in.
Mentally we learn to do the hard things and breathe through challenge, and in return gain a tremendously resilient mindset.
On an emotional level it clears anything that ails us, be it anxiety, depression, uncertainty etc. It is truly the ultimate antidote to stress. In that alone, we learn to navigate life with grace and ease.
Yoga grants us true wisdom and flowers us with the gift of heightened intuition and trust in our selves and our path. When we move with intention, we engage the body’s innate healing wisdom. Through the practice of Yoga we stimulate circulation, support lymphatic drainage, calm the nervous system, and massage the organs- helping the body restore itself from inside out. Each posture becomes a prescription in a sense- supporting joint mobility, encouraging better posture, improving lung capacity, and gently shifting the body out of stress response into rest and repair.
Unlike many exercise systems, Yoga is all about mindful movement that invites us to inhabit the body more fully. It is not to push through pain or override signals, but to listen, then adapt and respond. This is why Yoga can be profoundly therapeutic for chronic pain, fatigue, injury recovery, autoimmune issues, etc. This practice is not about doing more, it is about embodying awareness, this is precisely what makes it medicine.
It is a practice of spirituality- its roots go deep, reaching for nourishment generated by true surrender to listen to what is. It is a powerful system that grounds us into the blueprint for our Highest Self. It is regenerative, ancient and modern at the same time. In its wake, we may even grasp the Divine as we become reshaped. From this grounded space, we rise upwards. Like branches that reach for the sky towards the light, yoga grants us the gift of perseverance, compassion, and the courage to live our truth. Each time you step onto your mat, you return to yourself.
To show up means to unite- to all levels of our being and beyond. It is the sacred geometry that the lines of yoga give the gift of transformative renewal. Each and every time.
