Light: The Master Key
What if for a moment we could all just forget about all the supplements and all the biohacks and simply do one thing- get Light. Specifically sunrise and sunset sunlight. The rising sun is closer to us, which means the therapeutic red light (hello cellular repair) is able to more readily penetrate our skin. You can still receive these benefits up to 2 hours after sunrise. But the single most important reason here is all about how this simple practice regulates our circadian rhythm.
UVA (ultra violet long wave) light triggers biochemical reactions in the body:
Promotes thyroid hormone production (and energetically reconnects us to the natural world!)
Conversion of tryptophan to serotonin to later melatonin (gut health/ regulates digestion & immunity + sleep)
Production of dopamine and norepinephrine (adrenal health + lower cortisol/less fight or flight)
Synthesizes sex hormones (balanced hormones with increased circulation & metabolism)
Make sure you get outside. Grounding your bare feet on the Earth is truly one of the most healing medicines there is in my opinion. I always feel the connection of what I truly feel is love, and the motherly energy of Earth just pulling out all heavy and dense energies. The other day I was driving to the studio in the early morning and it is truly such a gift to experience the early morning an sunrise- the world is just so magical and soft and singing with life. After dinner my husband and I have been going for a walk (which is extremely beneficial for digestion) and it is such a nice way to connect and support gut health.
If there is one thing to truly wholeheartedly lean into is to remember this: we are light beings- and sunlight truly feeds our body’s electrical energy systems. Your body recieves signals in the early morning light to stop producing melatonin. This is vital to deeper sleep and ulimate detoxification. The TCM Bodyclock states that each organ has a specific time to do it’s job during our sleep, this is why being sound asleep by 10pm gives the gallbladder and liver the go ahead to detox. Aim for 10-20 minutes of sunrise (especially) and sunset light. Keep bright lights in your home off after the sun goes down. These 2 things have shifted my life tremendously. I love having amber bulbs and read in my red light most nights, the animals (2 cats and 1 dog) love joining us! So begin your day with light, stimulate your mitochondria (without supplements!) to produce more energy and optimal cell function.
One more thing to note- since I have been focusing on liver health the past couple of years I do not need to wear sunglasses as much. This is a great biofeedback system and I can tell a lot about the health of my liver if my eyes are too sensitive to the sun. My eyes have always been super sensitive to light and this is a huge sign for me. There is something magical about aligning with the greater cosmos that our biology recognizes instantly. Be the Light and shine bright. xoxo
